We are celebrating our 10th Anniversary in business this year. I just want to let you know about our new programs and specials this year.

We are offering a special price on the session fee $100. It includes a custom sand castle from Mark Flynn

We are also giving back to the community as well. This year we chose a non-kill non profit animal shelter. When you book a session, choose cat or dog and we will make a donation of a need item to the shelter.

Destin Photo tours ! Would you like to learn to take better vacation photos ? Call us for class times. We'll show you the trick of using fstops and shutter speeds.

For my past clients we have a prefered client program ! They will receive priority rebooking in case of bad weather.

I have some exciting new programs for my company next year. We are introducing a prefered client program with specials for past clients. To be in the program simply book a session this summer and you'll be automatically enrolled.

Greetings !
We have had a busy busy July here at Summertime beach studio. I want to thank all of my clients for choosing us and we wish you a safe trip back home. I didn't get a chance to blog as much this month but I will make up for it this fall. Sept and October are the BEST times for beach portraits on the Emerald Coast. There are also several film and arts festivals to attend as well. I will keep you posted.

Please call ahead to book your session with us this fall. It's during the off season that we take our vacations so please plan ahead.

Well so far so good... no hurricanes. I really had a good feeling this year.

Blue Angels July airshow Pensacola 2007

Even if you are staying in Destin for your vacation it's worth a trip to Pensacola to see the Blue Angels show. Check out their website for more details. The show is July 21. Get their early to claim your spot on the beach. And since you are over there check out the Navy museum on base. Go to mapquest and plug in Pensacola NAS.

You can also watch their practice sessions at the Navy base. The schedule is listed on the website. The kids can also get autographs and talk to the pilots following the session.

Last year there was a company offering helicopter rides from Pensacola airport down to the beach. It was $75 round trip. That's a great way to beat the traffic. I'll look for the company and post it here.

Fireworks ! There are lots of displays this year to choose from:

Sandestin at the Baytown warf is having a celebration from 5pm to 10pm. Fireworks will be set off after dark

Destin Commons: They are having a party also ( with roof top sparkers ... I'm not sure what that is but check it out anyway). Fireworks are scheduled for 8:30pm

Navarre is having a fun fest and fireworks on July 1

Northwest Fl philharmonic POPS will have a free concert at city hall July 1. City Hall will have their annual display over the Destin Harbor tune into MIX103 for the music with the show.

Seaside usually has a display but I don't see it listed in the paper

Greetings ! Summer is going by so fast ! Next week is July 4th. Let's see tonight at The Grape at the Destin Commons they are having a one year anniversary party. Music, wine etc. should be fun.

Are you looking for food and water floats for the beach. My advice... don't go after dinner.. why you ask.... because that's what everyone does. Avoid the Walmart crowd and go to Target. The prices are the same. It's quicker to get in and out =).

Celcebrating a Birthday this 4th on vacation ? Check out Publix at the corner of Mid bay bridge Rd. and Hwy98. They have GREAT cake. There is also a Publix less than a mile from the Sandestin resort.

Do you want a different view of the fireworks ? Rent a boat. They shoot the fireworks off over the Destin Harbor. Get there early for the best... well .. water spot.

I'll have more this Friday. They will have all of the activities for next week posted.

Greetings, The latest place to hang out and shop in Destin is the Destin Commons. They have the RAVE motion picture theatre and a playground for the kids. The playground even water spout area to cool off. I enjoy The Grape wine bar on Friday and Sat evenings. Sometimes they have live music.

Greetings ! Do you want the best saltwater taffy in town. Well actually the best candy period.
Then check out the Candymaker. They have the main store close to the old Destin cinema. And two new stores one at the Destin Commons and the other at Baytowne Warf in Sandestin. Ask for the Keylime fudge... it's wonderful. I can eat the whole chuck before getting out the door.

Suntan in Destin Florida

Greetings ! Your on vacation. And you want everyone to see your great tan when you get home ... right ? Here are some tips to tan and not burn.

First, actually get a little sun before you come to Florida. The beaches in our area are so white it will reflect the sun's rays to burn you quickly. So get a little sun first back home

Second: You really don't have to stay out all day to get a great tan. It's a myth that you need to stay out on the beach 8 hours a day. You'll just likely end up in the emergency room for sun poisoning. And yes that does and can happen.

Third: Spend a couple hours in the morning say... 9am to 11am take a break (go shopping =) and then around 3pm to 6pm enjoy the beach again. The sunset time in June and July is between 7:30 and 7:45pm.

Fourth: This is important. Don't lay and bake. You'll get a better overall tan if you take a walk and enjoy beach activities.

Be sure to wear sunscreen on the tops of your feet, your ears, between your nose and lips, and guys your around the hairline.

Elmos seafood restaurant

Greetings, There is a great little seafood restaurant on 30A close to the Topsail hill state park. They have live music on Thursday evenings. (call for there schedule) It's a very kid friendly relaxed atmosphere. When the weather is nice patio seating is available.

Bayou Bills seafood restaurant

Greetings, Bayou Bills restaurant has been in business every since I can remember. In the 80's they had a great location on the Destin harbor. They sold that place and moved to Santa Rosa Beach a few years before hurricane Opal. That was a good move. The only storm here to really do serious damage was Opal. Anyway, they are located about 5 minutes past the Sandestin resort on the north side of the hwy. If you go past hwy 393 you've gone to far.

They have the best seafood in the area !

Beach flag safety for visitors to Destin, Ft. Walton beaches

Greetings ! The first thing visitors want to do when they arrive is jump into the water. If you are not familar with gulf (or large body of water swimming) please be careful. It's not like the lakes, streams, and pools back home. While the gulf is very calm compared to the Atlantic or Pacific please swim with caution.

There are rip currents and shoreline currents that will pull you out of along the coast line. STAY CALM DO NOT PANIC. It's not going to hurt you. Once you are out of the current calmly swim to shore. Most people only drown because they panic not because they are in danger. In fact , lots of people could stand up where they are in the water and be fine. They just panic and can't think straight.

Flag warning system:
Purple: jellyfish or other pests are present in water
two red flags: water is closed. Do not go in
one red flag: be very careful, high hazard. If you are not a local surfer don't go in
yellow flag: caution
green flag: low hazard, favorable for swimming

Again always use caution and do not panic. We now have lifeguards stationed at local beaches. Please swim near them

I was a red cross swim instructor for many years. Take a swim / safety class back home. We want you to enjoy your vacation here !

Billy Bowlegs 2007 Ft. Walton Beach Florida

Greetings ! This is a great week to take a trip to Ft.Walton Beach. The Ft. Walton Chamber is putting on the annual Billy Bowlegs Festival this week. The pirates will land and take over the city after the boat parade through the sound. There will be music and crafts and plenty of beads for the kids. They have a midnight run and torchlight parade too. Check the Northwest Florida Daily news for details and times. Also check the Ft. Walton Beach chamber website.

Greetings, I know Tdepression Barry is in the news today. Actually it's good news for central and south Florida. Hopefully the fires will be put out. In this part of Florida, the weather is great today. When a storm passes to the east of us we see very little of it.

They are open till 10pm during the week and 11pm on Fri/Sat and 9pm sunday. They have great sweets and starbucks coffee. On July 20/21 midnight they are releasing the Harry Potter book with a party. Best gas prices in Destin

Greetings, I know the visitor first come to our area they are just trying to find there way around. The only place to find gas stations is on hwy98. Now, if you go out of Destin either east towards Sandestin or west to Ft. Walton Beach ( over the Destin bridge) you'll find better prices. As of this moment I got $3.15 gallon about 2 miles east of Destin.

Airports in Destin Ft. Walton Beach Pensacola Panama city

Greetings ! To get the best airfare, check each of the local airports. Sometimes the savings is significant and other times not. Just for a reference Pensacola is about an hour from Ft. Walton Beach ... add another 15 minutes to get to Destin. The Ft. Walton beach airport is actually 30 minutes away from Destin via Mid bay Bridge and 30 minutes to the beaches in Ft. Walton going around the west side of the bay. If you are heading to south walton check the Panama city airport. There is a GA airport in Destin also.

Check: Ft. Walton beach airport VPS, Pensacola, Panama City. All of them have car rental available.

Destin airport

Greetings ! I have been visiting with my brother over the past weekend. He flew his plane in and parked at the Destin airport. I must say I'm very impressed. They have charter flights and scheduled small jet service there. They literary put out the red carpet. For pilots they have a lounge with showers and a place to freshen up. Greetings ! If you are looking for a place to plan meetings in Ft. Walton Beach, FL then check out the Emerald Coast conference center. They offer many facilities of all sizes. Rooms are available for wedding receptions too. Most of the condos are on the " strip " which is just two stoplights down on the left. There are some great resturants in FWB too. Just go over the Brooks bridge and take a left at the second stoplight. They are located on the soundside.

Outdoor concerts in Destin

Greetings ! After you are done with a day at the beach take in a concert. Pick up the local beachcomber magazine. They are located at most news stands. They have concerts at the Market Shops at sandestin ( and outdoor movies too) , Destin commons, Matie Kelly Plantation.
These places are easy to find. Everything you need in this area is located on hwy98.

Medical care on vacation

Greetings ! We don't like to think about it but sometimes on vacation we catch a cold or sprain a ankle. Where do you go ? If you are in South Walton, there is Sacred Heart hospital on Mack Bayou Rd near the Publix ( close to Sandestin). They have inpatient and emergency room services. In Destin, there is a clinic on hwy98 and one on Airport Rd. The one on hwy98 is close to the scenic hwy across from Emerald Bay. The other one is in the middle of " downtown Destin" across from the airport. Just follow the planes and you will find the road.

Navarre Beach

Greetings ! I was recently out in Navarre shooting beach portraits. They have finished putting sand up on the beach. The state park is still closed as well as the National seashore. They have rebuilt most of Navarre and the resturants are open. There is also a play to hang out in the evening and beach rentals ( jet ski, volleyball ). If you are looking for a wider variety of resturants then head over to Ft. Walton Beach or Destin. If you need complete peace and quiet time then Navarre is your place.

Destin Starbucks shops

Greetings ! I was really busy in April and didn't have a chance to blog very much. I will do better this month. I thought I would let ya'll know where to find your favorite coffee shop is around town. Starbucks has Destin and Sandestin covered. On 30A in South Walton that have a shop just a bit east of Grayton. At the Market Shops at Sandestin they have a shop right out front ( you can't miss it). They just opened a new stand alone building in front of Silver Sands Factory outlet. While you are grocery shopping at the Publix ( located just .5 mile east of Sandestin Resort) there is a shop in the west end of the plaza. And finally they have a shop at the Destin Commons in front of the RAVE motion theatre. No matter where you are your caffine fix is just around the corner

Grayton beach

Greetings ! When you need a break from the beach stop by the Grayton community. It's an old Florida town with small cottages to rent and unique shops to browse through. They have bike and beach rentals too ! In the evening, try out the Red Bar. Go early it's a popular place and the lines can be long. Or try Panadora's steak house... located closer to 30A

Hurricane predictor myth !

Greetings ! The question I'm asked the most by tourists is " what about hurricanes" ?? Ok, let me say right now that every year I've lived in Florida ( since 1979 ) is going to be the " worst ever season ". I can also predict that California will have earthquakes, the midwest will have tornadoes, and the northeast will have snow... and it will be the worst year for all them.

Florida did have a run of bad luck in 2004.... so ?? Many parts of the state have not been hit by a hurricane in 80 years ! 80 years !

More people are killed by lighting in Florida... because they watch a thunderstorm from the golf course that by a hurricane. And if a 'cane is coming close.. trust me ... you will have plenty of warning.

I think I should switch jobs. What a great job to just sit around and make predictions about the weather. That's kinda like being a celebrity psychic.

Rosemary Beach South Walton

Greetings ! There is a little town just east of Seagrove called Rosemary beach. Many of my clients have stayed there and love it. They have arts festivals and wine tastings in the Spring and Fall. They are also opening up new businesses and resturants for fine dining and shopping.

Greetings ! A great place to shop and enjoy some time off the beach is Seaside. They have gulf front dining and a great ice cream shop by the artist colony. They also have evening concerts in t on the green at the town center. Get a bike and wander through the back roads.

Weddings in Destin South Walton Ft. Walton Beaches

Greetings ! We are a popular destination for beach weddings. Can you believe locals generally choose a church for their ceremony ??? The beaches are beautiful. Here are a couple of tips to follow.
1. April, May, Sept, Oct are the best months for beach weddings ! Why you say. Because unless you are used to our heat ... it's very hot here in the summer.

The sunsets are the best in Sept and October.

2. Hurricanes... we'll I have lived here 28 years and only 4 of those years have we had a hurricane hit close by. You might have better odds at the Florida lottery then getting hit with a hurricane.

3. Wear light clothing. Tuxs are great for a church but the men will thank you for dressing them in khaki jackets, white shirts, and khaki pants. Trust me.

4. Bridal gown, ladies it's the beach. Simple is best. A long train will only snag on the boardwalk as you walk down the isle.

Florida weather Destin

Greetings ! Just to let ya'll know, I'm going to be really busy for the next two weeks so I may not post a blog everyday.

The weather. It's the most talked about subject in Florida and by visitiors. When you log on to the weather channel they have rain down for everyday. Do NOT panic. The standard forecast for the weatherman is 30% chance of rain. That's just so he's covered. Many times ( unless it is a large front moving through) the rain is very scattered. It can rain in the north part of the county and not on the beach and visa versa. It can rain in Destin but it may never reach south walton that day. And unless it is a very large front, the rain will be gone in an hour or two.

So when you are planning you vacation make a list of places to shop or eat while it's raining. Don't worry it is not common for the rain to last all day.

If you are staying in one of the South Walton communities (Dune Allen, Blue Mountain, Grayton bch, Watercolor, Seaside, Seagrove, Seacrest, Rosemary) a great restaurant/bar is the Red Bar. I do advise though for dinner go early. They always have a wait in the summer. Afterwards The Zoo gallery is an ecceltic store full of neat gifts to take back home.

Destin Fishing Docks

Greetings ! Ok, I know everyone comes here to get a Florida tan on the beaches. But there are also other fun things to do on the water. Take a break at lunch time and check out the Destin fishing docks. They have boat and jet ski rentals, glass bottom boat ( 2 hour cruise, great for kids), and the sailing boats. I really enjoyed the Blackbeard sunset cruise. They took us out into the gulf and a school of dolphins swam by and did a jumping show. I think they might even have wine and cheese cruises for the adults too.

If you are planning a wedding in Walton County (includes the following areas: Dune Allen, Blue Mountain, Grayton beach, Watercolor, Seaside, Seagrove, Rosemary, Inlet beach) you need a beach permit. If a company is organizing the event for you they will probably take care of it. To obtain a beach wedding permit, go to the Walton county courthouse annex on 331. You can take care of getting your marriage license at the same time.

South Walton weddings Florida

Greetings ! It's a bit chilly today here in Florida... ok our high is going to be 65. That's chilly for me. Today I thought I would tell you about an alternative to the beach for a wedding. There is a state park called Eden Gardens. It's located on North 395 on the bay. It's a old world southern style house with expansive green lawns. In March, the azeleas bloom. It's just beautiful. To reserve the park for the wedding call the Grayton beach state park office. I will warn you though they have raised their prices recently.... but it's still less expensive than reserving a space at Seaside, Florida for a wedding.

Greetings ! Beach weddings in Florida can be very exciting and beautiful. Since I am a professional photographer, let me give you a few tips to help your planning go smoothly.

First check the sunset time ( we are on central time, and on daylight savings time from March through the beginning of Nov). Schedule your ceremony time either one hour or an hour and a half before sunset. Remember once the sun SETS. It is dark. And photos are not longer possible.

Greetings ! A great place to take your family in the evening or late afternoon is the fishing docks in Destin. When the boats come in you can watch them unload their catch of the day. There are also many fine resturants along the harbor to have dinner and watch the sunset.

Greetings ! My clients always ask me about places to stay. One recommendation ( there are many great places... I'm not getting any referral fees about my recommendations) is the Sandestin Resort. They have a variety of accomodations. Gulf front condos, Bay front condos, villas, hotel style. etc. Plus they have a free shuttle to activities around the resort. They have kids programs, golf, and resturants. For night life for the adults there is Baytowne warf. They have shoppings, resturants, bars, music etc.

Visit our new location at 108 Stahlman Avenue, adjacent to the Destin Community Center. Stahlman Avenue can be accessed directly off of Highway 98, near the Destin Bridge.

It's a great place to take the kids and then afterward I suggest lunch at the Lucky Snapper. They have a wonderful view of the harbor. Be sure to ask for a table on the deck out back.

Ft. Walton Beach... beaches

Greetings ! If you are planning to stay in Ft. Walton Beach for you vacation this summer, I know a great beach to get away from it all. Okaloosa island is probably where your condo will be located. If you take hwy98 to Destin from Okaloosa island there is a deserted stretch of beach. It is owned by the military but the public can use it. Look for the entrance gates ( they are small ). Also BE CARE FUL pulling off the road. There are no restrooms.... it's old florida beachin. If you are in the military they do have a nice picnic area that is on the same stretch of beach. It's located close to the Destin bridge.

South Walton

Greetings ! It's a wonderful spring day here in the Florida panahandle. The highs today are in the lower 70s !! Today I wanted to tell you about a wonderful hidden beach on county road 30A.
30A is the beach scenic road in South Walton. It connects the smaller beach communitites from Rosemary through Seaside through Dune Allen. There is a small state park called Deer Lake. It's between Seacrest and Seagrove. My advise is to get a map at the local gas station and then you'll see where all of the communities are. Anyway, you really have to keep your eyes peeled for the sign. It is parallal to the road....south side of the road. The dirt road ( safe for cars) will wind you through the woods to a parking lot. Then you can take the new boardwalk to the beach. It's very quiet. A great place to get away from the crowds.
